Chefs in Training - Flatbreads

5. 12. 2019

This week in the cooking club the children made flatbreads from a very easy recipe. We started with self-rising flour; we used white but we will try with whole wheat next time. We added white natural yogurt and a teaspoon of olive oil to the flour. We started mixing with a spoon and then segued into kneading with our hands until we got a nice ball of dough. We separated the dough into smaller pieces and the children had to first roll their piece into a ball and then flatten it out. This was the hardest part because most children wanted their piece to be so flat it had holes, so it took many tries to get it right. After warming up the pan and reviewing the safety rules when using a hot-plate, we started cooking our breads, taking turns flipping them over. After they were cooked through, only 4-5 minutes, we added a sprinkle of salt or a little ghi on top and dug in. It's so quick and easy to do and the children wanted more and more!
